SILICON VALLEY RECOVERING FASTER THAN NATION (Wall Street Journal - February 8, 2012)

Even before Facebook Inc. goes public, Silicon Valley is experiencing a surge in jobs and per-capita income, in contrast to the weak economic situation dogging the rest of the nation. According to a new closely watched report on Silicon Valley that came out Tuesday, the region added a total of 42,000 jobs last year, up 3.8% from 2010 and bringing the area's workforce back to its 2006 and 2007 levels of 1.2 million people. . . . . GREEN ECONOMY RESILIENT, GROWING QUICKLY, REPORT SAYS (U-T San Diego- February 8, 2012)

Since the mid-1990s, green jobs in San Diego County have grown more than twice as fast as the overall average and weathered the past two recessions better than most other industries, according to a report released Tuesday by Next10, a research organization focused on the environmental industry. According to the report, there were 20,500 “green economy” workers in San Diego County at the beginning of 2010 — the most-recent year for comprehensive data — compared to just 12,400 in 1995. . . . . .
